Things To Do in Malaga Spain

Moor History

Ascend La Alcazaba, a medieval Moorish fortress that towers over the city. Built by Hammudid dynasty in 11th century and one of Spain's best-preserved Moorish castles. From here you can wander down towards Roman Amphitheatre beneath it before gazing up at 16th-century cathedral which stands right in its city center.

Work on Your Tan

Costa del Sol trips would not be complete without some beach and sun time! Most tourists head straight for La Malagueta Beach; if you have more than two hours in Malaga, however, take a taxi ride east towards Playamar or Burriana for less crowded yet equally stunning beaches like Playamar or Burriana.

Paint With Picasso

Malaga's Picasso Trail can be best experienced through visiting the Picasso Museum, which houses exclusive pieces you won't find elsewhere. Additionally, visit his birthplace or take part in a "Ride With Picasso" bike tour that specializes in Picasso-related city sightseeing including Plaza de Merced - his early painting studio!

LOCAL CUISINE

Malaga's cuisine centers around seafood. Don't miss their signature dish of Gambas al Pil-pil, flash-fried fresh prawns with garlic, paprika and chilies; or order Pescado Frito on your cruise trip, featuring local white fish, clams and other seafood breaded and deep-fried to a crispy texture; before finishing your meal off with Tarta Malaguena featuring almonds and raisins served alongside Malaga dessert wine as dessert!

SHOPPING

Visit one of the local wine shops to bring home a bottle of Malaga dessert wine as a souvenir, while Malaga cruises provide access to an eclectic range of other souvenirs such as hand-painted Andalusian ceramics or handmade fans to beat the heat. Don't miss Ataranzas Market for some of Spain's best olive oil; find your bottle there too.
